Africa PPP conference set to accelerate infrastructure projects in Africa

The Africa PPP Infrastructure Investment Partnerships Conference 2019 is expected to foster collaboration between public and private sector institutions.
The 11th edition of Africa PPP conference is set to take place in Cape Town, South Africa on 22-24 October, 2019. The Africa PPP Infrastructure Investment Partnerships Conference 2019 is expected to foster collaboration between public and private sector institutions to effectively, efficiently and economically implement infrastructure projects across the continent, according to AME Trade, a London-based independent business-to-business event organiser.
In a statement released by AME Trade, Africa PPP is a platform established to help in reducing Africa's infrastructure gap. According to the African Development Bank (AfDB), nearly 600 million Africans are without access to energy. To bridge Africa's infrastructure financing gap, the continent needs as much as $170 billion annually in spending.
The organiser of Africa PPP said Africa presents a huge market opportunity. The continent has 52 cities with population of one million or more and is home to four of the world’s ten fastest-growing economies. Its urban population is expected to increase by 50 percent by 2030. The purchasing power of Africa’s middle-class is growing. In a decade, the continent is expected to have the largest workforce in the world, along with 60 percent of the world’s uncultivated arable land and abundant energy resources, ranging from hydrocarbons to renewable.
The theme for the Africa PPP 2019 conference is “Optimising Projects, Structures & Sources of Finance for Infrastructure & Energy Projects.” AME Trade said the conference is Africa's most influential event on infrastructure financing.
Among the already-confirmed speakers for the event are Joseph Essandoh-Yeddu, Director, Strategic Planning and Policy, Energy Commission Ghana; Symerre Grey-Johnson, Head of the Regional Integration, Infrastructure and Trade, AUDA-NEPAD; and Noman Siddiqui, Manager of PPP Division, Islamic Development Bank.
Others are Gabriel T. Aduda, Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs Office, Federal Republic of Nigeria; Jim Mugunga, Director, PPP Unit, Ministry of Finance, Planning & Economic Development, Uganda; and Judith Nyakawa, Director PPP Unit, National Treasury, Kenya.
Africa PPP 2019, according to AME Trade, will expand the dialogue between investors, project owners and developers to analyse the different approaches from traditional to innovative PPP mechanisms to find sustainable solutions for implementing infrastructure and energy projects.
The event will include a one-day training on 22 October, dedicated to project preparation for utilities and PPP units. AME Trade said it will present an opportunity for government PPP agencies to meet and collectively define best practices. This interactive workshop consisting of informative presentations and group discussion will be led by experts.
