Buhari sends list of ministerial nominees to Senate
News Highlight
The list includes 12 former ministers in Buhari's cabinet four years ago, and seven women nominees.
President Muhammadu Buhari has sent his list of ministerial nominees to the Senate. The Senate President, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, announced the receipt of the list of 43 nominees on Tuesday. The announcement came 54 days after the inauguration of President Buhari for a second term in office.
Unlike his first term when he appointed 36 ministers – one per state – President Buhari has also nominated one person from each of the geo-political zones for ministerial appointment.
Twelve of the 43 ministerial nominees served as ministers during the first term of President Buhari. They include former Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige; former Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed; former Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola; former Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; former Minister of Aviation, Sirika Hadi. Seven (or 16.3 percent) of the nominees are women.
