ICE3X launches Ethereum exchange for trading the naira
News Highlight
Ethereum is the second most popular cryptocurrency after bitcoin.
ICE3X – a South African bitcoin company – announced on Wednesday that it has launched an Ethereum trading platform for the Nigerian market. With the new Ethereum trading platform, customers will be able to purchase Ethereum directly from naira accounts without first converting to bitcoin.
Ethereum is the second most popular cryptocurrency after bitcoin. Unlike bitcoin, Ethereum is not just a digital currency, but also runs a system whereby its tokens or ethers (units of currency) can represent shares or units of voting between people. Ethers are also a common currency used to raise funds by start-ups in the cryptocurrency space, according to NairaMetrics.
In 2015, ICE3X became the first company to launch bitcoin trading in Nigeria via an exclusive partnership with VoguePay, a leading payments processor. ICE3X said it is continuing its partnership with Voguepay on its Ethereum trading platform.
“The two-year old system has picked up backing from both tech geeks and big corporate names like JPMorgan Chase and Microsoft, which are excited about Ethereum’s goal of providing not only a digital currency but also a new type of global computing network, which generally requires Ether to use,” said Gareth Grobler, Founder of ICE3X.
“We are thrilled to be a part of an innovative way in trading. What matters most, is that we want to make available a platform where traders can exchange crypto currencies with confidence.”
Founded in 2013, ICE3X – which is an abbreviation of Internet Currency Evolution Cubed – has operations in South Africa, United Kingdom and Nigeria.
