Money transfer operator and digital financial solutions provider, Wari, said it has launched its services in Nigeria after securing a licence from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Wari is Africa's fastest-growing financial services platform providing individual and corporate customers with innovative and secure financial services.
According to a statement released by the payment solutions provider, some of its services include domestic and international remittances, bill payments, airtime top-up, among others. Wari was among the 11 new International Money Transfer Operators (IMTOs) that were licenced by the CBN in August.
"This license from the Central Bank of Nigeria provides an opportunity for Wari to serve millions of Nigerian users," said Kabirou Mbodje, CEO of Wari Group. "We are thrilled by Nigeria’s huge potential and by the opportunity for an African-born Group like Wari, to partner with Nigerian institutions to offer easy, fast, secure and affordable services tailored to the Nigerian user’s needs."
Established in 2008, Wari is available in 35 African countries, including Senegal, Ghana, Kenya, Tanazania, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cabo Verde, Mozambique and Nigeria. The company said it has signed partnership agreements with United Bank for Africa (UBA), Union Bank of Nigeria, Ecobank and other major banks as well as microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Nigeria.
Wari also said its services are available on its interactive platform, MyWari app, as well as through its network partners – Airtel and MTN – and partner MFIs. Customers can also transfer and receive money through accredited agents across Nigeria.
“The Wari digital platform is designed to accept even more merchants and financial partners in Nigeria and allow them to access the largest customer network not only in Nigeria but in Africa and the rest of the World. Our operations in Nigeria are an additional and crucial step in Wari’s development in Africa and worldwide," said Mbodje.
The CEO also said the company's goal is to contribute to deepening financial inclusion in Africa with innovative and secure services that are in compliance with regulatory requirements. Wari is the leading mobile money transfer provider in Senegal. In Nigeria, the company seeks to provide services for both the banked and unbanked population and support the cashless policy of the CBN by reducing the need to carry cash. Customers can make and receive payment for goods and services through its partner agents or through easy-to-use mobile, web and card solutions.
“To those who say ‘it’s time for Africa,’ we say ‘let’s make sure it’s time for the Africans,’” Mbodje added.
